Ingredients:
Chana Dal - 100gm
Ginger Garlic paste - 2 tbsp.
Tomato - 1 medium sized
Onion - 1 small
Oil
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Chili Flakes - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
Red dried chili - 2 (cut into 2 piece vertically each)
Salt
Garlic - 4 cloves (crushed)
Method:
Place the Chana Dal in a pressure cooker along with Turmeric Powder (1/2 tsp), Ginger garlic paste (1 tbsp.), some salt to taste, roughly sliced tomato and water (about 2 cups) for about 10-15 minutes or till 2 whistle.
Now take a medium pot and add Oil (3 tbsp.). Allow the oil to heat up a little then add garlic cloves crushed; fry them until they become slight golden brown in color then add Cumin seeds (1 tsp) and mustard seeds (1 tsp) and let it fry for a half minute.
Now add Red dried chili (2) and chili flakes (1 tsp); allow it to fry for a while and then add Ginger Garlic Paste (1 tbsp.) along with onion (1 small diced).
Now allow it to cook for about 5 minutes until the smell of Ginger garlic paste is gone then add turmeric powder (1/2 tsp), Chili powder (1 tsp), Garam Masala Powder (1/2 tsp) and some salt to taste; Cook for about 5 minutes .
Finally add the precooked dal into the pot and cook it for about 10 minutes with lid closed.
*Garnish the Dal tadka with chili flakes, fresh coriander leaves and small slices of ginger (optional).
Notes:
*Soak the Chana Dal for about half hour before preparation.
